Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a personal performance tool designed to address a wide range of negative emotions that compromise people's lives, productivity, relationships, opportunities, and happiness.

EFT has ancient roots in the Chinese study of the body's subtle energies. Modern pioneers like Dr. George Goodheart, Dr. John Diamond, Dr. Roger Callahan, and Gary H. Craig have refined the work begun 5000 years ago by Chinese healers.

EFT is a cousin of acupuncture and acupressure. It goes beyond these therapies in that it verbally targets specific negative emotions in a streamlined, orderly process while targeting the body's energy meridian points. Using EFT, the practitioner can clear disruption in, and restore balance to, the body's energy system. EFT is like "emotional acupuncture without needles."

EFT departs from the traditional therapeutic approach of "treating the memory" by asking the client to repeatedly relive it. EFT respects the memory, but addresses the true cause of the negative emotion: a self-perpetuating disruption in the body's energy system. The consequence of a painful life experience is an energy disruption; negative emotions are the reaction to this disruption. The good news is:
  • EFT does not involve a drawn-out "tell me your life story."
  • EFT often works when nothing else will.
  • EFT is usually rapid and long-lasting.
  • EFT is physically painless.
  • EFT does not involve drugs or equipment.
The motivation that drove EFT developers was the question: What actually works? The best news about EFT is that it is very effective in removing disruptions in the energy system. It is relatively painless compared to traditional therapies committed to the belief that clients must endlessly wallow in their painful past.

In contrast, the EFT practitioner must only identify the origin of the pain that caused the energy disruption and understand the specific negative emotions that the client experiences in reaction to the disruption's self-perpetuating "static." A negative emotion is like a tripped circuit breaker that compromises your ability to cope. EFT is a rapid, effective way of resetting the breaker. Removing the negative emotional component from a memory, event, or situation results in a profound and pleasant effect on attitude, perception, relationships, and overall health.

What actually happens in an EFT session? EFT involves briefly discussing the original problem that triggered by the body's energy disruption and the negative emotions experienced in reaction to it. The practitioner then taps on the body's energy meridian points in an orderly manner while verbally addressing the negative emotions while the client repeats directed statements. During this process, additional simple techniques are employed to activate and balance the right and left sides of the brain. At first, this seems to be the strangest part of the process. This sense of strangeness disperses quickly when the overall process gets results. Talk to an EFT client and see the Testimonials.

What is EFT Effective On?

  • Addictions: Food, Chocolate, Smoking, and Alcoholism.
  • Fears and Phobias: Phobias can cause intense fear and panic attacks. They often severely limit the lives of those who have them. There are hundreds of identified phobias. Some of the more common phobias successfully treated by EFT involve fear of: Public Speaking, Heights, Performance, Dentists, Confined Spaces, Needles, Driving, Elevators, Flying, Bridges, Rejection, Water, Dogs, Bees, Being Alone, and Failure.
  • Traumatic Memories: War, Accidents, Rape, Grief, Mental Abuse, Physical Abuse, Unpleasant Childhood Memories, and Unpleasant Relationship Memories.
  • Physical Healing: Negative emotions can contribute to physical ailments; to the extent that EFT neutralizes those negative emotions, physical symptoms subside. Here is a partial list of physical ailments successfully addressed by EFT: Headache, Back Pain, Stiff Neck, Joint Pain Stress, Depression, Stomach Ache, Anxiety, Irritable Bowel, and Migraine.

Reiki

Reiki healing works on the energy system that underlies the bones, tissues, and fluids of the body's physical structure. Irregularities in the energy system eventually manifest in the physical structure, giving rise to symptoms of ill health. The Reiki practitioner is trained to sense energy blockages and subtle energy fluctuations and to focus attention on that location. Reiki heals by allowing spiritually guided life energy to flow through the affected parts of the energy field and charge them with positive energy. In the process, negative energy breaks apart and falls away. In so doing, Reiki clears, straightens, and heals the energy pathways, allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way. Consequently, the physical body is encouraged back to a state of balance and health.
